BendGate ~ a beat up story over nothing

http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/09/26/consumer-reports- tests-iphone-6-and-6-plus-durability-suggests-bendgate-may-be-overblown

What a week, “the sky is falling, the sky is falling”, I mean “my iPhones bending, my iPhones bending”

We every bodies heart restarted it was discovered that 9 people had complained that their iPone had bent.

Because of the initial panic the US equivalent to our Choice Magazine did some test and found it takes more than 30 kilos pressure to begin to deform an iPhone 6 and it was over 45 kilos when the screen separated. The 6 plus was 40 kilos pressure to deform and 50 kilos to screen separation!

The worst device was the HTC one at 27 kilos and 40 kilos.

The best was the plastic backed samsung which the screen shattered at 68 kilos, but the back being plastic just bounced back into shape at other pressures.

As a side note the iPhone 5 was 59 kilos to deform and 68 to separate.

BASH getting bashed!

A vulnerability was found in the Bourne-again shell (BASH), in Unix / Linux operating systems this week. The hole has, apparently, been there over 20 years. Apple has released updates to protect us.

Apple patches “Shellshock” Bash bug in OS X 10.9, 10.8, and 10.7. Fixes Bash bug discovered last week that’s already been seen in the wild.

Because there is a different update for each OS Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks we will put the links in the show notes.

This Weeks D’OH Tip

In response to “my iPhone 6 screen won’t rotate”

Sorry it is only the iPhone 6 plus that can rotate. AND it won’t rotate in “zoomed” mode!

listener question

a listener question – can I change the drive that itunes does backups to for my ios devices.

I have tried to the mlink or whatever the win dos command is – tried couple of versions but cannot seem to get it to work. I have a SSD as my main drive and am finding these backups are taking valuable space.

MS This works BUT be careful and read through the instructions first, just to get your head round them!

Bug in iOS 8’s ‘Reset All Settings’ Option Also Erases

iCloud Drive Documents ~ agh, our woes continue

http://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/29/reset-all-settings- icloud-drive-bug/

It appears that there may be a serious bug with the “Reset All Settings” option in iOS 8, causing users who activate the feature to lose all of their iWork documents stored in iCloud Drive.

According to multiple posters on the MacRumors forums, using the “Reset All Settings” option under General –> Reset has caused documents to be permanently deleted from iCloud Drive.

We are becoming “fashionistas”

http://www.iclarified.com/44282/apple-watch-goes-on-display-at- the-colette-boutique-in-paris-photos

Tying in to Fashion Week in Paris, as expected the Apple Watch has been put on display at the Colette Boutique in Paris.

Earlier today an invitation to ‘A One Day Only Experience’ with Apple surfaced on the Colette.fr website. It was rumoured that the Apple Watch would be highlighted at the event.

Now pictures posted to Twitter and Instagram show the location displaying the Apple Watch prominently, with various models of the device being shown in coloured ovals.

Just continuing the Fashion talk ~ several designers last week said they were looking into making pockets bigger to take the bigger iPhones after receiving “Many” requests from customers. Just like to say, have a dig, whatever the Phablets been out for years according to Samsung and Google but only now have enough people asked for bigger pockets. These should now match our deeper pockets which we have been accused of having for ever!
