Our Aussie Apple Ramblings

Story 1

iOS 9.3 pulled for early iPhone & iPad models

Late last week media reports flooded the tech world that Apple’s big iOS 9.3 release was causing upgrade errors and now Apple has gone on record to confirm these issues…

Speaking to iMore, Apple confirmed activation problems for some users and a partial suspension of the upgrade:

“Updating some iOS devices (iPhone 5s and earlier and iPad Air and earlier) to iOS 9.3 can require entering the Apple ID and password used to set up the device in order to complete the software update. In some cases, if customers do not recall their password, their device will remain in an inactivated state until they can recover or reset their password. For these older devices, we have temporarily pulled back the update and will release an updated version of iOS 9.3 in the next few days that does not require this step.”

Apple today released an updated 9.3 build 13E237 for older devices.

I (Michael) have seen this today on a persons iPhone 6s

How To 1

Speeding up older iPads

Lets assume you have an iPad 1 or 2 or 3 or a iPad mini 1

Enable Reduce Motion

Tap Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion and set Reduce Motion to On.

Turn off Notifications

Tap Settings > Notifications and, for each app, set Notifications to Off.

Speed up Safari

Like on the Mac, empty the cache

Tap Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data (it’s down the bottom if you have trouble finding it, like I did)

And now the biggest trick

Get rid of Apps you don’t use.

Like say GarageBand.

Press and hold until the apps jiggle, now tap the x on the top left corner of the App icon and agree to delete

Lastly restart the iPad by powering off, and turning back on
