Story 4

The Uber Accident

All the reports I have heard and read prior to to this report say it was un-avoidable.

The cnet story quotes “Cortica, a technology company that develops autonomous artificial intelligence, analysed the video and provided its evaluation exclusively to CNET.

Its system detected Herzberg at 0.9 second before impact when the car was about 50 feet away. Cortica’s CEO, Igal Raichelgauz, said that would have been enough time for an autonomous vehicle to react and save Herzberg’s life.

“The advantage of machine response time and control, the right actions could be made to certainly mitigate the damage,” Raichelgauz said.

To put this in plain Australian numbers

The car was doing 61KPH

It travelled 15.24 Meters, after the system saw something.

Thats 3.2 Commodores

Now according to

from 61KPH

Thinking Distance: 9 m

Braking Distance: 22 m

Stopping Distance: 31 m – thats twice the distance

Lastly, our thoughts are with the victims family and the driver
